Producing clean hydrogen can power rail and truck transportation, produce ammonia for fertilizer for farmers and can be used in making cement, steel or other types of industrial products.

Benefits to locating to a Hydrogen Hub in Kansas

  • Some of the lowest wholesale electrical generation costs in the nation, fostered by significant electrical generation from wind, solar and nuclear sources

  • Robust agricultural and industrial sectors that can readily consume derivative products made from hydrogen

  • Extensive underground hydrogen storage potential in salt depositsthat can be transitioned into storage caverns covering 37,000 square miles – making it easy to store and transport

About the Kansas’ HARVEST Hydrogen Hub

The HARVEST Hydrogen Hub represents a non-partisan coalition of public and private parties that are active in Kansas and have a strong interest in the development of a productive hydrogen-based energy sector based in Kansas that supports a wide range of economic activity and acts as a critical, central hub for the future national hydrogen infrastructure.

The goal is to replace the use of fossil fuels in some sectors of the economy and open the door to what is known as the hydrogen economy.
